Poles paying more attention to what they eat amid epidemic: expert

Amid a coronavirus epidemic, Poles are paying more attention to the quality and origin of the food they buy, an expert has said.

Many people have started cooking again as a result of spending more time at home, according to Prof. Krystyna Świetlik from Poland’s Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics.

At the same time, they are buying more traditional food and more natural products, especially vegetables and fruit, state news agency PAP reported.

Consumers are now more likely to plump for agricultural products with short supply chains, according to Prof. Świetlik, who has been monitoring trends on the food market for years.

She added that such items could be bought at marketplaces and bazaars.

She said shopping at the local bazaar was becoming more popular not only among older people, but also among younger customers "who are looking for tasty, unprocessed, safe and healthy food.”
