Investigators believe the suspects may have brought around 48 kilograms of the drug, with a total street value of some PLN 2.8 million (EUR 620,000, USD 760,000), into Poland from Spain before being nabbed.

In a swoop, officers seized around 7 kg of marijuana hidden in the spare tyres of a delivery van that crossed into Poland, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported on Tuesday.

Poland's Central Bureau of Police Investigation (CBŚP) and the Border Guard (SG) service joined forces for the crackdown, according to the cbsp.policja.pl website.

The suspects have been charged and remanded in custody for three months following a court order.

They could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted, according to prosecutors.
