Donald Tusk is returning to Polish politics. "I am 100% returning" said the former prime minister, co-founder of Civic Platform party and now its honorary leader, at Saturday's convention of the party's National Council in Warsaw.

"I feel co-responsible for the fate of the Civic Platform" Tusk said adding that the party needed to recover its confidence in possible victory, because it was needed to win the "battle for the future" with ruling Law and Justice.

Civic Platform leader Borys Budka earlier told journalists that Donald Tusk was returning to Polish politics "on his invitation and at his request". He will be assuming a senior role in the party's leadership and possibly eventually replace Budka at the helm.

64-year-old Donald Tusk was Poland's Prime Minister between 2007-2014. He then served as President of the European Council. He is currently head of the European People’s Party, the largest bloc in the European Parliament.
