31 dead, 210 hurt on Polish roads over Easter break: police

Thirty-one people were killed and 210 injured in 188 accidents on Polish roads during the four-day Easter weekend, police have said.

Meanwhile, officers stopped 1,265 drunk drivers during their Safe Easter 2022 road safety campaign, which lasted from Good Friday to Easter Monday, according to Robert Opas from the National Police Headquarters (KGP).

The Easter weekend is usually when Poles spend time with their extended families and travel extensively to visit their relatives. Family gatherings are often accompanied by alcohol.

During last year’s four-day Easter weekend amid the COVID-19 pandemic, 22 people died and 181 were injured in 153 road accidents nationwide, according to police statistics cited by state news agency PAP.
