Poland's Zbigniew Rau and his Dutch counterpart Wopke Hoekstra on Wednesday talked about steps that the international community should take against Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, including stepped-up sanctions, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

It quoted Rau as saying after the talks that "the conversation showed a far-reaching convergence of views."

Rau told reporters: "We talked primarily about assistance to war-torn Ukraine, both humanitarian and military, and we agreed on this issue."

He added: "We also talked about swift, comprehensive and severe sanctions against Russia ... and discussed the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war," he added.

During his visit to the Netherlands on Wednesday, Rau took part in what is known as the Utrecht Conference, part of a series of consultations between Polish and Dutch diplomats that has been running since 1999.

The Utrecht Conference is a platform for the exchange of views between Poland and the Netherlands on key European issues, according to officials.
