Polish FM to visit Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia

Poland's foreign minister is scheduled to visit Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia this week in his role as chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), officials have said.

"Between 31 May and 6 June, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau will travel to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia on another official visit in his capacity as OSCE Chairman-in-Office," the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement.

It added that Rau's visit to Central Asia aimed to "strengthen the links these countries have with the OSCE and highlight their commitment to the Organization’s goals and activities, as well as expressing support for ongoing reforms in these countries."

In Kazakhstan, Rau will meet with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, parliamentary Speakers Maulen Ashimbayev and Yerlan Koshanov, and Deputy Foreign Minister Akan Rakhmetullin, according to the Polish foreign ministry.

A meeting with members of civil society is also planned. 

In Uzbekistan, Rau is scheduled to meet with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov, and Parliamentary Speakers Tanzila Narbayeva and Nurdinjan Ismailov.

In Mongolia, Rau will hold talks with President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, and Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh, according to Polish foreign ministry spokesman Łukasz Jasina.
