The event is in its 20th year and runs until July 14 in Poland's historic southern city of Kraków.

Diplomats from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary attended the official opening at the start of last week.

The Visegrad Summer School, held by the Villa Decius Association, aims to be a platform for the exchange of knowledge and partnership ideas, but also an important instrument for the integration of people from across the region, according to the visegradsummerschool.org website.

The initiative provides participants with opportunities to discuss some pressing political, economic, cultural and social issues with diplomats, government ministers, European Union officials and community leaders from various countries.

This year's Visegrad Summer School is special because it marks the 20th anniversary of the project, looks back at its history, and focuses on relationships that have been established over the years, according to officials.

The main focus this year is business innovation and cultural heritage.

The Visegrad Group, or V4, is a regional cooperation platform that brings together Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
