The 24-year-old Pole outplayed the 20-year-old Russian 6-4, 6-1 in their women's singles quarterfinal in the United Arab Emirates, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported on Friday.

Fręch, who is ranked world No. 118 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), will next face Slovakia's world No. 147 Viktória Kužmová for a place in the final.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek leads the entry list for next year's Australian Open Grand Slam tournament, the WTA announced.

Świątek, who is reigning French Open and US Open champion, is one of 12 current or former Grand Slam winners who have entered the first major of 2023, which begins in Melbourne in mid-January, according to the wtatennis.com website.

The Pole, who reached her first Australian Open semifinal this year, will be bidding to add a fourth Grand Slam title to her resume, the WTA said.

The 2023 Australian Open will be held from January 16 to 29.
