Łukasz Szumowski told reporters that the patient, a resident of Poland’s western Lubuskie province, was “feeling well” and undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city of Zielona Góra.

The infected man recently traveled to Germany, Szumowski said at an impromptu news conference in Warsaw.

A group of people who had contact with the affected person have been placed in quarantine, he added.

Polish lawmakers this week approved a set of special rules to help the country fend off the threat posed by the new Covid-19 virus, which originated in China and has spread to dozens of countries worldwide.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told deputies during a special session of Poland’s parliament on Monday that his country was prepared to deal with a coronavirus outbreak and urged Poles not to panic.
