Radwańska said in a Facebook post that the donation to the city’s University Children's Hospital was an expression of her admiration for front-line healthcare workers fighting to protect Poles during the virus outbreak.

The former tennis star, who ended her career in 2018, encouraged people to help hospitals and health professionals in the time of the coronavirus.

The University Children's Hospital in Kraków recently appealed for financial support to help it buy medical supplies and personal protective equipment for its staff, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Radwańska, a former world No. 2, as ranked by the Women’s Tennis Association, won 20 WTA singles titles during her career.

She reached the final of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament in 2012 and the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2014 and 2016. In 2015, she won the season-ending WTA Finals event.

Polish football star Robert Lewandowski and his wife Anna said last month they were donating EUR 1 million to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.
