Officials say the donation is intended as a mark of recognition of the museum’s commitment to the promotion of events related to the art of textiles and the role played by the International Triennial of Tapestry, which has been organised by the museum for 45 years.

The 16th Triennial, which opened in October 2019, runs until July 26. It has attracted almost 30,000 people.

Hiroko Watanabe, who is a professor at the Tama Art University in Tokyo, attended the Triennial’s opening ceremony.

The director of the Central Museum of Textiles, Aneta Dalbiak, has told the media that “the museum staff are honoured to have received the donation.”

“It is a wonderful gesture which will allow us to carry out more projects aimed at popularising artistic textiles,” she said.
