Poland reports 6,469 new coronavirus cases, 423 more deaths

Poland on Saturday reported 6,469 new coronavirus infections and 423 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,798,617 and fatalities to 67,924.

Of the new cases confirmed on Saturday, 982 were in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

Meanwhile, 782 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The southwestern province of Dolnośląskie, which is home to the major city of Wrocławhad the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Saturday, at 755.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 324 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 99 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Friday, Poland confirmed 429 deaths and 6,796 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 541 deaths and 8,427 fresh cases day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

22,415 in hospitals, 185,680 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Saturday morning that 22,415 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 2,723 of them on ventilators, with a further 185,680 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,510,858 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 14,048 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
