Talking to reporters on Monday, Mateusz Morawiecki said that just transition should take into account the starting point, energy mix and the fact that Western countries have used fossil fuels for 200 years now to reach the current level of economic development, and that without actually taking care of the impact on climate.
"This is a crucial thing for if we want to tackle climate issues in solidarity, we must be aware that the United States or the rich countries of Western Europe are positioned much differenty than those of Central Europe, such as Poland", Morawiecki was quoted as saying by Poland’s PAP news agency.
The Polish southern city of Katowice hosted COP24 summit in 2018.
Morawiecki referred to that event, expressing his hope that the work that began there, resulting in the so-called Katowice Rulebook laying down the rules and requirements for achieving the targets set out in the Paris Agreement, would be completed in Glasgow.
At a crucial moment to tackle climate change, the United Nations’ COP26 summit kicked off in Glasgow on Monday with a set of speeches by world leaders who are under increasing pressure to limit the rise in global temperatures.
The event runs until November 12.
