215 children from a home in the city of Zaporizhia, south-Eastern Ukraine are now on their way to Poland.

The children were evacuated to Lviv as Russia seized control over Europe's largest nuclear plant located near the city. After a train journey that took 24 hours, the group arrived in Lviv on Saturday. The children were transferred to coaches and the convoy set off for the Polish border.

One of the older residents of the home, 16-year-old Volodymyr, who was also helping to take care of the younger children, told PAP Polish Press Agency that "it was awful being in Zaporizhia, with the sirens wailing and having to hide in the cellar all the time."

On Sunday morning Poland's Border Guard informed of over 922 thousand refugees who had crossed into the country. 129 thousand entered on Saturday, March 5, and 39.2 thousand already by 7 am on Sunday.

The majority of refugees are Ukrainian nationals, but there are also Poles, as well as residents of Uzbekistan, Belarus, India, Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, Afghanistan, Pakistan, USA and Russia.
