The announcement was made on the last day of the agency’s 2019 World Conference on Doping in Sport in the southern Polish city of Katowice.

Bańka was picked to be the new head of the international drug-fighting body in May.

He was at the time selected over Marcos Diaz of the Dominican Republic at a meeting of government representatives in Montreal, Canada.

The Pole, 35, will take over as the organisation’s new head effective January 1.

Klaudiusz Madeja spoke to Bańka about his work as Polish sports and tourism minister as well as about the challenges ahead during his six-year term as the new chief of WADA.
