Ukrainians flee war with pets in tow: audio report

Cats, dogs, hamsters and parrots—many refugees from war-torn Ukraine are bringing their pets to safety as they flee their war-torn country.

Dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs... it's impossible to estimate the total number of pets that have been brought into Poland by refugees from Ukraine.

Carried in bags, boxes, rucksacks or simply in their owners' arms—there are so many of them that vets here quickly launched volunteer services at the border and at refugee centres, while Poland's veterinary authorities responded with simplified regulations, and began to chip animals at border crossings.
