Poland’s ambassador to the United Nations has called on Moscow to return the wreckage of the Polish presidential plane that crashed near the western Russian city of Smolensk on April 10, 2010, killing the president, his wife and 94 others, including many senior government officials.

“The investigation … cannot be completed to this day because Russia stubbornly refuses to [provide] Polish investigators [with] the key evidence in the case, namely the remains of the plane and the flight recorders,” Krzysztof Szczerski said, while addressing a UN Security Council meeting on Monday.

“Someone might ask: what is the secret behind this catastrophe that does not allow Russia to release this key evidence?” he added.

Michał Owczarek has the story.
