The nationwide initiative, called Girls as Engineers, promotes technical and engineering studies among female high school students, highlighting the long-term benefits and opportunities in STEM careers.

The nearly two-decade-old campaign is supported by annual reports tracking women's involvement in STEM fields at various academic stages.

According to the latest study, released on Wednesday, women made up nearly 34 percent of students at Poland’s public technical universities during the last academic year.

"There are early signs of change: Some technology-related fields, particularly those with clear practical applications, are attracting more women," said Anna Knapińska, the report's author.

“While traditional disciplines like engineering and computer science remain male-dominated, areas such as social informatics and applied mathematics are becoming more popular among female students," she added.

Biomedical engineering emerged as the most female-dominated technical discipline, with women accounting for 62 percent of students, according to the report.
