The whole phenomenon begins mid-way through July, and runs through September the 1st, though astronomers say the best chance to see the Perseids this year will be the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

“You’ll be able to see plenty of them, around 30 to 40 in an hour”,  astronomy buff Karol Wójcicki told Polish Radio.

“The later in the night you watch, the more meteors you’ll see, because in the evening the Perseids will be coming from a constellation located very low above the eastern horizon, meaning many of them will disappear beyond the horizon line, behind trees or rooftops”, he added.

The Perseids, however, are no “shooting stars” but rather dust that burns as it approaches the Earth’s atmosphere, Wójcicki explains.
