“Democratic elections are particularly vulnerable in this regard as we could see it in Moldova just a few days ago”, Sikorski said, opening the event on Monday.

“Russia and its local proxies attempted to influence the outcome through vote buying, disinformation activities and cyberattacks, but fortunately they failed”, he added.

The Warsaw Human Dimension conference is being held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, under the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Over the 10-day event, participants will attend sessions covering human rights, the rule of law and democratic institutions.
