US-brokered Ukraine-Russia peace talks hoped to resume in early November

Hopes are rising for the resumption of US-brokered trilateral talks aimed at ending Russia's war in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects the talks to resume in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, in early November.

However, the war must first end, and Ukraine's own security must be ensured. According to Zelenskyy, fundamental issues can be discussed with Russia through US mediation. But if the guarantees affect European security, Europe must also have a seat at the negotiating table. The FT describes this as a significant shift in Kyiv's position. Previously, Ukraine and its allies had rejected the Kremlin's demands, viewing them as an attempt to restore Russia's sphere of influence and reshape Europe's security architecture.

Ukrainian and Russian negotiators are expected to meet there under US mediation.
