The latest figures were released by Poland’s Ministry of Family and Social Policy, state news agency PAP reported.
‘102,000 Ukrainian refugees working in Poland’
“Some 102,000 Ukrainian nationals who arrived in Poland after Russia invaded their country have found employment in Poland,” the Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper reported on Thursday, citing government data.
The paper noted that refugees did not need permits to work in Poland, following the passage of special regulations in March.
“Exempting refugees from work permits slashed bureaucracy and gave them full access to the labour market in Poland,” Rzeczpospolita wrote.
It said the latest figures mean that some 20 percent of working-age refugees had found jobs in Poland.
Number of Ukrainian workers 'rising by the thousands every day'
Rzeczpospolita quoted Poland’s minister for family and social policy, Marlena Maląg, as saying that the number of Ukrainian refugees taking up employment in the country “is rising by the thousands every day.”
Maląg added that Ukrainian employees were usually stepping in "to perform simple tasks in industries where employers report staff shortages.”
According to Rzeczpospolita, 17.7 percent of those who have started jobs are working in offices, as specialists, or as technicians, while the rest found employment in the services and manufacturing sectors.
The paper also reported that 75 percent of the working refugees were women, "mostly without qualifications and a poor command of the Polish language."
Thursday is day 71 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Poland on Thursday reported it had welcomed more than 3.16 million refugees fleeing Russia’s war on Ukraine.
