Mikhail Khodarenok issued the scathing assessment before the cameras of public broadcaster Rossiya 1, tvp.info reported on Tuesday.
‘The whole world is against us’
Appearing on a talk show about the war, the retired colonel said, as quoted by tvp.info: “We’re in total geopolitical isolation and the whole world is against us, even if we don’t want to admit it."
Khodarenok’s “moment of candour" about the Kremlin’s “special military operation” must have come as a shock to the Russian public, tvp.info said.
'The situation for us will clearly get worse'
Moreover, the military expert said that “the Ukrainian army can arm a million people” thanks to Western military aid, tvp.info reported.
With US and European military assistance to Ukraine set to increase, “we need to treat this million Ukrainian soldiers as a reality" in the near future, Khodarenok added, according to tvp.info.
He warned that for this reason, “the situation for us will clearly get worse,” as cited by tvp.info.
'The situation cannot be considered normal'
The retired colonel also said that, with Russia isolated on the international stage, “the situation cannot be considered normal - and one way or another, we must resolve this,” tvp.info reported.
Tuesday is day 83 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
