Michał Dworczyk revealed the figure at a local governance conference in the southwestern city of Wrocław, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
'No other EU country has provided as much'
Dworczyk, who is a top aide to Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, told the conference: “Armaments are leaving Poland for Ukraine every week - so far we’ve spent over PLN 7 billion (EUR 1.51 billion).”
He added: “No other European Union country has provided as much military support to Ukraine as Poland.”
Helping refugees
Separately, Poland has also admitted millions of Ukrainian war refugees, Dworczyk noted.
By Thursday, the country had welcomed more than 3.46 million people fleeing Russia's war on Ukraine, according to the Polish Border Guard agency.
Of this number, “some 2.5 million to 3 million remain in Poland,” Dworczyk said.
Humanitarian aid for Ukraine
Moreover, “every week, the central government is sending at least 1,000 tons of quality food to Ukraine, while nonprofits and local governments are also providing food aid,” Dworczyk told the conference.
He called on Brussels to "find additional funds" in its coffers for refugee support.
EU allocates EUR 248 mln for five countries, including Poland
Dworczyk’s words came after the EU’s executive on Wednesday announced it would release EUR 248 million for five member states taking the brunt of the influx of war refugees from Ukraine.
These countries are Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia, the PAP news agency reported.
Thursday was day 85 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
