Andrzej Duda made the statement after meeting his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Egypt’s LNG for Poland?
At a joint news conference with the Egyptian head of state, the Polish president said: “We regard Egypt as very much a partner for the future when it comes to LNG.”
Duda noted that Poland was expanding its existing LNG terminal in the northwestern city of Świnoujście and planning to build a new floating facility in the northern port of Gdańsk.
“We also fully support the negotiations between Egypt and the European Commission about the delivery of LNG to the European Union,” he added.
Poland is looking to source gas from countries other than Russia following the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine.
COP-27 in Egypt
The Polish president also said that he would like to attend this year’s United Nations climate summit (COP-27) in the Egyptian sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
He told reporters: “This conference is enormously important. I will try to attend it in person, but if that's not possible then I can assure everyone that Poland will send a worthy delegation with the highest level of expertise.”
'New era in Polish-Egyptian relations'
Duda said that relations between Poland and Egypt were intensifying on many fronts, including exports of Polish food to Egypt, as well as in the maritime industry, tourism and science.
“I believe that this visit will open a new era in Polish-Egyptian relations,” Duda told the news conference in Cairo.
Monday was day two of the Polish president's three-day visit to Egypt.
