The new restrictions were announced by the US Commerce Department late on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

71 entities added to US trade blacklist on Thursday

In all, 70 Russian entities and one Belarusian firm have been banned from accessing American technology and software, officials said.

The entities added include the St. Petersburg Shipbuilding Institution; the Russian Academy of Sciences; the Voronezh Joint Stock Aircraft Company, said to be one of the biggest Russian factories for passenger and cargo aircraft; and the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, which manufactures the MC-21 family of airliners.

322 entities blacklisted since February 24

The US Commerce Department has now blacklisted 322 entities for support of Russia’s military since the Kremlin’s assault on Ukraine began in February.

"The U.S. and our international partners have put in place strong, sweeping restrictions on Russia’s ability to obtain the items and technologies it needs to sustain its military aggression,” said Alan Estevez, the US under secretary of commerce for industry and security.

The new economic restrictions are part of a range of US sanctions imposed on Thursday, including prohibitions on further members of Russia’s elite.

Friday is day 100 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
