Mykolaiv’s Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych has told the UK broadcaster that the city is being bombarded by Russian artillery on a daily basis.

Storage sites burnt out, grain lost

The official added that Russian shelling recently hit a local grain port, one of the largest in the country.

Its cargo district was damaged with four storage sites burnt out and all the grain inside lost,” the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, Ukrainians have enough equipment to defend Mykolaiv, but not to go on the attack, Senkevych said.

With the Russians also entrenched in defensive positions, “everyday it’s the same thing,” the mayor said.

Food crisis

Ukraine is one of the top exporters of grain worldwide.

However, due to the war and the resulting Russian blockade of Black Sea ports, it has been unable to bring its harvest to the world.

Last week, the United Nations warned that the total number of people suffering from acute hunger could rise by 47 million, if the war in Ukraine continues.

Friday is day 107 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
