‘The arms are essential for Donbas, Kharkiv, and the south of Ukraine,’ Zelensky said in a video.

Ukraine’s head of state expressed his gratitude to the US and President Joe Biden for a new military aid package, under which the war-torn country will get equipped with the NASAMS air defence system, enhancing its defence capabilities.

Besides NASAMS, the US will supply Ukraine with radar systems and ammunition, all worth roughly $820 million, according to Zelensky.

The Ukrainian president also mentioned the International Working Group on Security Guarantees for Ukraine, formed in May at his request.

The advisory body consists of policymakers, diplomats and academics from all around the world, including head of Poland’s open-access intelligence agency, Adam Eberhardt.

‘It’s main goal it to set realistic long-term security guarantees for our country and ensure that no future aggression will take place,’ Zelensky added.

The group’s first meeting was held on Friday, and it was co-chaired by Ukrainian president’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, and former NATO Secretary General, Denmark’s Anders Fogh Rasmussen, President of Ukraine’s official website reported.
