Andrzej Duda joined the call alongside the leaders of the UK, Germany and Canada, among others, as Joe Biden hosted the virtual meeting, officials said.

The Polish president “spoke about the need to maintain full support for Ukraine and a tough stance towards Russia,” his office said on Twitter.

Poland’s head of state also “relayed his conclusions about Russian disinformation,” based on his ongoing visit to Africa, reporters were told.

‘Continued international support for Ukraine’

Meanwhile, the White House announced that Biden “ spoke by video conference today with Allies and partners to underscore continued international support for Ukraine, including through the ongoing provision of security and economic assistance and the sustained imposition of costs on Russia to hold the Kremlin accountable for its aggression.”

“The leaders also discussed Russia’s weaponization of energy and the need for further coordination to secure sustainable and affordable energy supplies for Europe,” the statement added.

The White House noted that “Joining President Biden on the call were Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada, Chancellor Scholz of Germany, Prime Minister Draghi of Italy, Prime Minister Kishida of Japan, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, President Iohannis of Romania, President Duda of Poland, Prime Minister Truss of the United Kingdom, and representatives from France and the European Union.”

Biden announces USD 675 mln in new security assistance for Ukraine

Earlier on Thursday, the US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin announced that Biden had authorised up to USD 675 million in fresh security assistance “to meet Ukraine’s critical security and defence needs.”

The package includes additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); four 105mm Howitzers and 36,000 105mm artillery rounds; and 100 Armoured High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV), among other items, according to officials.

The announcement came as defence ministers from dozens of countries, including Poland’s Mariusz Błaszczak, met at the US military base in Ramstein, Germany, as the Ukraine Defence Consultative Group, to further coordinate support for Ukraine, the PAP news agency reported.

Thursday was day 197 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
