A passenger car collided with Volodymyr Zelensky’s vehicle and his escort in the capital Kyiv, the president’s spokesman Sergii Nykyforov said in a statement, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Nykyforov added that the driver of the car that collided with Zelensky’s motorcade was treated at the scene and taken away in an ambulance.

Meanwhile, “The president was examined by a doctor, no serious injuries were found," the official said.

Zelensky on Wednesday made a surprise visit to Izyum, a key city in the Kharkiv region that had been retaken from Russian forces four days earlier.

The Ukrainian president watched as the Ukrainian flag was raised in front of the city council building, news outlets reported.

Earlier in the day, Zelensky handed out medals to troops who freed Balakliia, another town recaptured recently from Russian troops.

“It’s a repeat of Bucha. Again we see torture, again we see ruins,” the Ukrainian president said in the retaken territory.

“No occupier will manage to conquer the hearts of the Ukrainians. You can occupy territory, but you can’t occupy a nation,” he stressed, as cited by the PAP news agency.

Thursday is day 204 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
