On Sunday morning, representatives of all major political parties took part in a popular morning show hosted by a private TV broadcaster, Polsat.

A spokesman for the ruling conservatives, Radosław Fogiel, pointed out that people who are now seeking asylum hadn’t objected to the war earlier.

“Now that they feel the heat, they’ve come to realise that they’re in fact pacifists,“ a Law and Justice politician remarked.

In the same vein spoke Deputy Speaker of the Polish lower house, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, who opined that Russian should not leave their country.

“Russian society has to react to what happened in Bucha and to what Putin is doing,” said Czarzasty, who is the co-chairman of Poland’s largest left-wing faction.

Krzysztof Bosak of the right-wing nationalist Confederation stressed that those who want to escape from Russia are no oppositionists, but simply people who don’t want to be conscripted into the military.

“It’s not our business, it’s not out problem. It’s Russia’s problem and let them sort it out,” Bosak explained.

Grzegorz Schetyna of the largest opposition group, centrist liberals Civic Platform, agreed that tough steps should be taken and stressed that he would be glad to see an EU-wide decision on the matter.

“Amid the ongoing situation, I think a meeting of member states’ interior and foreign ministers should be convened as soon as possible,” former Civic Platform leader said, adding that the EU should speak with one voice with regard to this issue.
