Volodymyr Zelensky made the statement in a video address on Tuesday night, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

He said that the actions of the Russian commanders were “bringing death” to the Russian troops.

The Ukrainian president went on to state: "Constant attempts of the Russian offensive in the Donetsk region will surely go down in the history of wars as one of the most cynical murders of one's own soldiers."

He added, as cited by the kyivindependent.com website: "When we see this, when we see these offensives, we are once again convinced that the Russian mobilisation is a frank attempt to give commanders on the ground a constant stream of 'cannon fodder.'"

Zelensky also said Ukraine was trying to persuade Russian citizens that their own country was depriving them of the most important thing, namely “the right to live,” IAR reported.

Ukraine retakes Pisky-Radkivsky

Meanwhile, Russian forces on Monday night fired an X-59 missile on an airport in Ukraine’s central city of Kryvyi Rih, destroying the facility, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

“Infrastructure has been destroyed. Further use of the airport and its equipment is impossible,” said Valentyn Reznichenko, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration.

Ukraine’s army has reportedly reclaimed the village of Pisky-Radkivsky on the eastern bank of the Oskil river, near the border between the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, according to PAP.

Fighting continued for control over other settlements in the municipality of Borova, which lies at the intersection of the Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, PAP reported, citing local Ukrainian officials.

Putin to announce accession of parts of Ukraine to Russia on Friday?

Meanwhile, the UK Ministry of Defence on Tuesday reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin was scheduled to address both houses of the Russian parliament on Friday, September 30.

In their latest intelligence update on the war in Ukraine, the British analysts said: “There is a realistic possibility that Putin will use his address to formally announce the accession of the occupied regions of Ukraine to the Russian Federation. The referendums currently underway within these territories are scheduled to conclude on 27 September.”

Tuesday is day 216 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
