Russian forces bombarded the city of Kherson and other areas in the region 42 times on Thursday and Friday, Regional Governor Yaroslav Yanushevych said on the Telegram messaging app, as cited by the Reuters news agency.

The city of Kherson was recaptured from Russia by Ukrainian forces in mid-November after months of occupation, but has been under fire since then from Russian artillery troops, Reuters reported.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last month that investigators had uncovered more than 400 Russian war crimes in his country's southern Kherson region after the withdrawal of Russian forces.

Friday is day 282 of Russia's war in Ukraine.
