Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the blasts occurred in Kyiv’s central Shevchenkivskyi district in the early hours of the day, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
"Explosions in Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital," Klitschko wrote on the Telegram social messaging app, as cited by the Ukrainska Pravda website. "The services are on their way to the site. More details later."
It happened shortly after an air raid siren sounded in Kyiv, British broadcaster BBC reported.
Meanwhile, regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba said air defences had been deployed, according to the PAP news agency.
Later in the morning, Klitschko stated that they had taken out 10 Iranian-made Shahed “kamikaze” drones, the BBC reported.
Kyiv’s military administration said a drone fragment had struck two administrative facilities downtown; there were no immediate reports of any casualties, according to the BBC.
The regional governor was cited as saying: "The air defence system is operating. It's important now to stay in shelters and safe places. Russia is continuing its energy terror against our country. But we are getting stronger daily."
Since October, Russia has systematically targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with rocket and drone attacks, leaving millions without electricity, heat and access to drinking water.
Wednesday is day 294 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
