According to an article published in The Washington Post on Wednesday, the so-called Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) systems can be installed in a variety of weapons, and the US military has used this technology in munitions weighing up to 2,000 pounds (1,000 kg). JDAMs are typically installed on bombers and jet fighters.

The newspaper reported that it was not clear whether any of the top US decision makers, including President Joe Biden, have approved the proposed transfer.

On Tuesday, news outlets reported that the Pentagon was preparing to provide Ukraine with a Patriot missile system, which The Washington Post said is hailed as the US military’s most sophisticated air defense weapon.

The decision to send the Patriot batteries to Ukraine could be announced later this week.

Since the Russian invasion began in February, the United States has provided Ukraine with around USD 20 billion in security aid, according to officials.
