Perhaps for the first time in Russian state television, there have been references to calls to replace Putin. On Russian state television there have been repeated references to statements made by Russian opposition politician and Moscow municipal deputy Boris Nadezhdin.
On 27 May, Nadezhdin appeared on the Russian NTV channel demanding elections in 2024 to replace Putin and normalise relations with Europe.
While global media has made sporadic references to cracks in the picture created by Russia propaganda - such as Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin's threats to withdraw from Bakhmut - Putin's popularity with ordinary Russians appears to be stable - or even improving.
