The latest update on the frontline situation was provided by the General Staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine on Monday morning, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.
Ukrainian troops “continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction” in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, as well as conducting ”assault operations in the Bakhmut direction,” in the eastern Donetsk province, military authorities in Kyiv said.
In the course of these operations, Ukrainian forces “inflict losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, and wear down the enemy along the entire front line,” Ukraine’s General Staff assessed.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers on Sunday repelled all Russian attacks, which took place near Bohdanivka, Khromove, Andriivka and Druzhba, according to officials.
Russia to continue assault on Ukraine's Avdiivka?
In addition, Ukrainian forces fought off some 20 Russian air-supported assaults in the Avdiivka direction, also in the Donetsk region, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, "Russian forces are funneling additional forces to the Avdiivka front despite ongoing challenges with frontal mechanized assaults and the failure of a renewed push on October 19-20.”
Ukrainian Tavriisk Group of Forces Spokesman Col. Oleksandr Shtupun said that the Russian military was deploying personnel from Russian territory directly to the Avdiivka direction to replace personnel losses.
Ukrainian military observer Kostyantyn Mashovets said that the Russian military command has recently transferred several Russian regiments comprised of mobilized personnel to the Avdiivka direction, indicating that Russia likely does not plan to abandon operations in this direction, the ISW reported.
Meanwhile in Zaporizhzhia, Ukrainian troops repelled Russian attacks near Verbove and Robotyne, the military command in Kyiv said.
In all, Ukrainian and Russian forces clashed more than 90 times on the battlefield on Sunday, according to officials.
Russia launched 10 missile strikes, 63 aerial strikes, as well as 58 artillery attacks from multiple-launch rocket systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and on residential areas, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
These attacks resulted in casualties and injuries among Ukraine’s civilian population, with residential buildings and other civilian facilities destroyed or damaged, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force on Sunday conducted seven strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel, weaponry and military equipment, according to officials in Kyiv.
Ukraine’s missile troops also destroyed four Russian artillery systems, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.
As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives.
Monday is day 607 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
