The UK Ministry of Defence made the assessment in its latest intelligence update, published on social media on Saturday.

On March 1, Russia imposed a six-month ban on gasoline exports to stabilize prices in its domestic market amidst increasing demand, the update reads.

As a result of Ukraine’s strikes on Russian refineries, the repair process might be prolonged as Western sanctions have hindered the import of crucial components necessary for the restoration of refining capabilities, according to officials in London.

The UK Ministry of Defence also stated that the Russian government is likely to be particularly concerned about the rising gasoline prices and other everyday commodities as the country approaches its presidential elections scheduled for March 15-17.

Saturday marks day 745 of Russia’s war on Ukraine. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
