According to a statement by the UDepartment of Defense, the new security assistance package includes "capabilities to support Ukraine's immediate air defense, artillery, and anti-tank requirements."

Specifically, Washington will provide Kyiv with Stinger anti-aircraft missiles; additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 155mm artillery rounds, including High Explosive and Dual Purpose Improved Cluster Munitions rounds; 105mm artillery rounds; and AT-4 anti-armor systems, the statement said on Tuesday.

The package also contains additional rounds of small arms ammunition; demolitions munitions for obstacle clearing; and spare parts, maintenance, and other ancillary equipment, according to the Pentagon.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky took to X to thank US President Joe Biden, "his administration, Congress, and the American people" for the new military aid package, which he said "addresses Ukraine's immediate needs for artillery, antitank weapons, and air defense."

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, the United States has rallied a coalition of nations in support of Ukraine and committed more than USD 44.2 billion in assistance to help the country defend itself, the UDepartment of Defense also said.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 749 of Russias war on Ukraine.
