Speaking to Polish Radio on Thursday, Alexei Baranovsky, a representative of the group, outlined that these armed actions, which have been ongoing for 24 hours, aim to disrupt the upcoming pseudo-presidential election in Russia and express opposition to Vladimir Putin's regime.
The volunteers, who are part of the International Legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, undertake daily service and engage in guerrilla warfare upon crossing into Russian territory. Their latest operation marks their most substantial effort, involving more participants and enhanced armament than previous endeavors.
"For the first time, we are using armored vehicles," Baranovsky said in the interview.
The timing of the operation coincides with the start of the presidential election in Russia. Baranovsky emphasized the volunteers' commitment to opposing Putin's war crimes and the regime itself.
"As Russian citizens, we decided to express our political position and show our attitude to Putin and his election. Putin is a war criminal, and his regime should be destroyed," he declared.
Baranovsky also critiqued the passive stance adopted by some Russian émigrés in Western Europe, advocating for a more active opposition to the Kremlin's policies. "It is necessary to fight. I and my comrades-in-arms are contributing to the fight," he stated.
The military operations are focused around the border town of Tetkino, with Ukrainian drones simultaneously targeting military sites in the Russian regions of Belgorod and Kursk.
