The group, which opposes Putin's policies, held its first plenary session in November 2022 in Jabłonna near Warsaw, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Since then, it has convened four times, adopting documents aimed at forming the legislative foundation for a future Russia and strategies for a transitional period after the fall of Putin's regime.

The future of Russia, Ponomarev asserted, is being decided through their efforts to formulate alternative governing bodies within Russia.

During the fifth session of the Congress on Wednesday in Warsaw, Ponomarev emphasized the opposition's collaboration with the Ukrainian government.

This cooperation includes documenting evidence of Putin's usurpation of power since 1999 and coordinating the actions of Russian partisans in Russia with Kyiv.

Two leaders of these formations, Alexei Baranovksy and a soldier known as "Caesar," are currently fighting in Russia's Belgorod and Kursk regions, according to media reports.

These groups also conduct combat operations in the Belgorod and Kursk regions of Russia.

Wednesday's announcement underscores the continued resistance against Vladimir Putin's regime by various factions within Russia, including former deputies to the Russian parliament, the PAP news agency reported.

Ponomarev also highlighted the international support for the Russian opposition, saying that key partners outside Ukraine include Poland, the United States, Canada and Germany.

He expressed a desire to organize an exhibition in the Polish parliament entitled "Faces of Resistance" to introduce Polish audiences to the activities of the Russian opposition.

Furthermore, Ponomarev aims to establish joint working groups with the Polish parliament and the European legislature.

However, there was no consensus on the best strategy for opposition activities among the participants of the Congress's session. Some delegates suggested developing "three specific social slogans" to increase the Congress's recognition in Russian society.

Others argued that the only solution is to support Ukraine in the war against the Kremlin, leading to Russia's dissolution by force and rebuilding the state on new constitutional grounds, the PAP news agency reported.

Notable attendees of the session included Michał Kamiński, deputy Speaker of the Polish Senate, and Krystyna Kurczab-Redlich, a journalist and author of books on Russia.

Kamiński said that supporting the Russian opposition is a moral obligation for Poles and Europeans. He criticized those wishing for the continuation of the current regime in Russia.

Since March 12, fighting has ensued in Russian regions bordering Ukraine between forces loyal to Putin and Russian volunteer formations aligned with Kyiv, including the Russian Volunteer Corps, Freedom of Russia Legion, and the Siberian Battalion.

Recently, partisans announced control over the localities of Tyotkino in the Kursk region and Gorkovsky in the Belgorod region.

An independent Russian channel on Telegram, Mozhem Obyasnit, reported on Tuesday that the ongoing battles had resulted in 16 deaths and 98 injuries.
