"On the night of April 9, 2024, the Russian invaders launched 20 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs ...," the Ukrainian air force said on Tuesday morning.

"The air defence forces destroyed all 20 Shaheds that attacked Ukraine,” it added, as cited by state news agency Ukrinform.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on the Telegram messaging app that the drones were destroyed over the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Vinnytsia and Lviv regions.

He added that Russia also targeted Ukraine with "four S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles" during the night.

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Tuesday that "56 combat engagements took place at the frontline" over the past 24 hours.

It added that "the enemy launched a total of four missile strikes, 97 air strikes, and 92 MLRS [multiple launch rocket system] attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements," Ukrinform reported.

Civilians 'killed and wounded'

These attacks "have killed and wounded civilians," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also said, adding that "residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed or damaged."

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Tuesday is day 776 of Russias war on Ukraine.
