The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said in a statement that "all necessary procedures have been initiated to ensure the safety of Polish airspace."
It added that it was "monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis."
The statement also said that Polish and allied aircraft were activated early on Thursday, cautioning the public of "increased noise levels, particularly in the southeast of the country," in areas across the border from Ukraine.
The alert was in effect for about three hours, news outlets reported.
Russia launched a fresh wave of missile strikes on Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday morning, targeting the country's energy infrastructure, according to officials.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky called for more air defence supplies after Russia used over 40 missiles and 40 drones to target critical infrastructure in five regions, including the western region of Lviv, the Reuters news agency reported.
Ukraine's air defence forces said they destroyed 18 missiles and 39 drones launched by Russia overnight.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.
Thursday is day 778 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
