The meeting would be the next step in efforts to negotiate an end to Russia's yearslong invasion of Ukraine, Politico reported on Tuesday, citing a Trump administration official and a person close to the administration.

The US Secret Service is preparing for the potential summit in Hungary, whose Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been a longtime ally of Trump, Politico said.

The report comes a day after Trump, Zelensky and a group of European leaders met at the White House to discuss ending the Ukraine war.

Last week, Trump met with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska for a summit to broker an end to the three-and-a-half-year-old war.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Tuesday is day 1,273 of Russia's war on Ukraine.
