Carney visited Warsaw on 25 August after attending Ukraine’s Independence Day celebrations in Kyiv the previous day.
Both leaders stressed that Poland and Canada intend to support Ukraine not only during the ongoing Russian aggression but also after the conflict ends.
While Poland does not plan to send troops to Ukraine, Tusk said the country will take responsibility for the logistical organization of aid to Ukraine and for securing Poland’s borders with Russia and Belarus.

Polish and Canadian strategic partnership
The meeting also focused on broader bilateral cooperation, with Poland as Canada’s largest partner in Central and Eastern Europe.
During the talks, the two leaders also discussed strengthening military cooperation.
The head of the Polish government, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, announced that relations will soon be upgraded to a strategic partnership.
Strengthening Polish-Canadian ties in energy and trade
PM Tusk also highlighted close economic and energy connections between the two countries, noting that Canada’s experience in nuclear energy and renewable sources will be particularly valuable for Poland.
The politician added that he had already discussed nuclear cooperation with Carney’s predecessor, Justin Trudeau.
“Poland needs reliable partners ready for close cooperation in nuclear energy and renewable energy projects,” Tusk said.
He also pointed to the recent decision for Polish Airlines LOT to purchase Airbus aircraft, produced in Quebec, further strengthening trade ties. LOT has selected 40 Airbus A220 planes for its fleet, with deliveries expected by 2027.
Carney's visit in Warsaw also featured a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
The Canadian prime minister will next travel to Germany and Latvia.
Discussions in the Polish capital also included defense ministers from both countries - Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Canada’s David J. McGuinty.
