The strikes hit multiple regions including Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Sumy and Donetsk, damaging residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, and sparking fires in several locations.

Poland said it scrambled fighter jets as a precaution.

President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Western allies to step up sanctions against Moscow, targeting Russia’s banking and energy sectors.

"We saw the world’s response to the previous strike. But now, as Russia once again shows its utter disregard for words, we count on real action," Zelensky said in a statement.

"This war won’t stop with political statements alone; real steps are needed. We expect action from the U.S., Europe, and the entire world."

Ukraine’s air force said its defences shot down 548 drones and missiles in total, but five missiles and 24 drones struck seven sites, with debris damaging 21 facilities.

Russia used Shahed drones, ballistic missiles and other types of rockets, officials said.

Separately, Ukrainian forces struck Russian oil refineries in Krasnodar and Syzran, according to Kyiv.
