The Prosecutor General’s office reported that a gunman fired several shots at Parubiy, killing him on the spot.

Ukrainian law enforcement has launched a full-scale search, but no information has been released regarding the attacker’s identity or motives.

Parubiy, 54, was a long-time politician who served as parliamentary speaker from 2016 to 2019 and was a leader of the 2013–14 Euromaidan protests.

He also served as secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council in 2014, during the start of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences on X, saying:

"Andriy Parubiy was killed. My condolences to his family and loved ones. All necessary forces and means are engaged in the investigation and search for the killer."

Tributes poured in from Ukrainian and international figures.

Former President Petro Poroshenko called the killing "a shot fired at the heart of Ukraine," praising Parubiy’s patriotic work.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski described the news as "shocking," recalling Parubiy’s role in helping to evacuate the Polish consulate from Sevastopol in 2014 and expressing his condolences to the Ukrainian nation and Parubiy’s family.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi urged swift action to identify the attacker, noting the heightened risks of violence in a country at war.

Ukrainian authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the killing, while speculation over potential Moscow links persists, though no direct evidence has been presented.
