President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia used more than 100 drones in the assault, which damaged apartment buildings in several districts of Kyiv.

He urged tougher international sanctions against Moscow and its allies.

"Every Russian strike is an attempt to inflict as much damage as possible on ordinary life," Zelensky said, adding that Russia has targeted residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in recent days.

"In just one week, Russia has used nearly 1,200 attack drones, more than 1,360 guided aerial bombs, and over 50 missiles of different types against Ukraine," he wrote on X.

A day earlier, two people were killed and 13 injured in a separate Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv, according to officials.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Sunday marks the 1,341st day of the war.
