At least four people were killed and dozens injured, including a pregnant woman and children.

Kyiv’s mayor said the casualties included a couple in their seventies who died when the ceiling of their apartment collapsed.

The strikes triggered fires and caused extensive damage to residential buildings and infrastructure across nearly all districts of the city.

In the Podil district, a missile hit the upper floors of a block of flats, emergency services reported.

Ukrainian authorities said Russia used ballistic and aeroballistic missiles that are particularly difficult to intercept.

In total, Moscow launched about 430 drones and 18 missiles at Ukraine overnight, according to officials.

Fragments of an Iskander missile struck the premises of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv, they added.

While the capital was the main target, missiles also hit areas in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Sumy regions.

President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X that the barrage was a "deliberately calculated attack aimed at causing maximum harm to people and civilian infrastructure."

He said dozens of apartment buildings in Kyiv had been damaged and expressed condolences to the families of the four people killed.

Zelensky said Ukraine was responding with "long-range strength" but urged allies to tighten sanctions on Moscow and boost Kyiv’s air defences.

"Russia is still able to sell oil and build its schemes. All of this must end… Europe and the United States can help. We are counting on real decisions," he wrote.
