Spain will provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth EUR 817 million, most of it for military support, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Tuesday after talks in Madrid with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Sanchez told a joint news conference the package includes EUR 615 million for military support and equipment for Ukraine’s armed forces, and more than EUR 200 million for rebuilding war-damaged infrastructure.

As part of the military component, Spain will finance the purchase of U.S. weapons for Kyiv with EUR 100 million through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.

Sanchez voiced Spain’s “full and resolute support” for Ukraine, which has been defending itself against Russia’s invasion since February 2022.

“Spain is helping us in our defense. Russia’s aggression is taking place in Eastern Europe, and it must be stopped there, but this can only be achieved through unity,” Zelenskiy said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Zelenskiy met King Felipe VI and representatives of Spain’s defense industry, which he praised during his appearance with Sanchez.

This is Zelenskiy’s third visit to Spain since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022. It was originally scheduled for April but was postponed due to the death and funeral of Pope Francis.

In February, Madrid announced a separate military aid package for Kyiv worth EUR 1 billion, under a 10-year agreement signed between Spain and Ukraine in May 2024. Spain has so far supplied Leopard tanks, Patriot missiles, anti-tank systems and ammunition to Ukraine.

Zelenskiy arrived in Spain after visiting Greece on Sunday and France on Monday. In Paris, he signed a letter of intent with President Emmanuel Macron on the possible purchase by Ukraine of up to 100 French Rafale fighter jets.

The Ukrainian leader plans to travel to Turkey on Wednesday, where he will work on efforts to resume prisoner exchanges with Russia and is due to meet Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy for peace missions.
